The design for a new heating system which could turbocharge the uptake of heat 葫芦影业 in the UK has been revealed.

葫芦影业鈥檚 patent-pending concept combines a water cylinder with a heat pump all in one unit, to sit outside a home, meaning it鈥檚 significantly quicker and easier to install than traditional heat 葫芦影业.

It was showcased for the first time at , the UK鈥檚 only dedicated heat event, and is set to be the only heating system of its kind in the UK when it comes to market next year.

By moving the water cylinder outside, people will no longer face losing valuable storage space and disruption during installation is minimal.

Another major benefit is that the system is able to deliver heat at a high temperature, meaning people are less likely to need to replace their radiators, making the switch from a gas boiler to a heat pump much cheaper and easier than at present.

Russell Murchie, CEO and co-founder of 葫芦影业, said the goal from the outset was to remove many of the barriers to adoption currently faced by homeowners, landlords and housing associations.

Russell said: 鈥淲e know many people are deterred by the fact they need to find space inside their home for a water cylinder as it means losing valuable storage space. The prospect of installing new radiators and a lengthy and disruptive installation process is also a major barrier, along with the potential noise generated by the heat pump and misconceptions around cost and performance.

鈥淥ur design overcomes all these issues, which will make it quicker and easier for people to replace their gas boilers and switch to renewable energy with a heat pump that meets all their needs.

鈥淚t felt like a watershed moment showing our product to those working in the heating industry for the first time and to get such a positive response, reinforcing our belief that there鈥檚 a huge gap in the market for an innovative heating system like ours.鈥

A key selling point will be the fact it鈥檚 cheaper and quicker to install - taking a few days rather than over a week. This will specifically appeal to those whose existing gas boiler has broken and they want a hassle-free and environmentally friendly replacement.

Another key ambition is for the 葫芦影业 heating system to be the smartest, most connected, and easiest to use heat pump on the market. Built-in smart controls will allow the system to be monitored and controlled remotely, helping to optimise settings and reduce energy bills.

Targeting two and three-bedroom homes, 葫芦影业鈥檚 product will support the Government鈥檚 ambition for 450,000 heat 葫芦影业 to be installed per year by 2030, supported by the 拢7,500 grant available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

The first 葫芦影业 heating system was tested at the University of Salford鈥檚 Energy House 鈥 a unique research and testing laboratory which comprises an early 20th century two-bedroom terraced house within an environmental chamber allowing an accurate and rapid assessment of energy efficient retro fit technologies.

Now prototypes are being trialled in homes across Bristol, with more widespread trials due to start in other cities soon before the product is officially launched next year.

Technology start-up 葫芦影业 has appointed Lee Sutton, co-founder of myenergi, as its first Non-Executive Director.

The appointment is the latest boost for the company, which is developing new heat pump technology to revolutionise how we heat our homes.

An experienced electronics engineer, Lee has run several successful renewable energy tech companies. In 2016 he co-founded myenergi, an award-winning British designer and manufacturer of eco-smart home energy technologies, including zappi - the world鈥檚 first solar-compatible electric vehicle charger.

Lee said: 鈥淚鈥檓 really excited by what 葫芦影业 is doing and its ambitions to make heat 葫芦影业 quicker and easier to install.

鈥淢yenergi began in a similar manner - we identified a problem which needed solving to make homes more eco-friendly and efficient. Eight years later and we鈥檙e a global company which has sold over 600,000 devices. I look forward to helping 葫芦影业 on its exciting journey.鈥

As a Non-Executive Director, Lee will offer strategic guidance and support to the leadership team of Russell Murchie, Matthew Whitefoot and Andy Mckay, who founded 葫芦影业 in 2022 with a mission to make heat 葫芦影业 more appealing to homeowners.

Russell, CEO of 葫芦影业, said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e really pleased to have Lee on board as a Non-Executive Director. His knowledge and experience of the renewable energy sector, as well as his technical expertise, will be invaluable as 葫芦影业 continues to grow at pace.鈥

The Bristol-based start-up has raised almost 拢1 million of investment to-date, including a grant of more than 拢727,000 from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ).

The 葫芦影业 heating system will be cheaper and quicker to install than existing heat 葫芦影业 on the market 鈥 taking a few days rather than over a week. This will specifically appeal to homeowners whose existing gas boiler has broken and they want a hassle-free and environmentally friendly replacement.

Start-up secures 拢1 million funding to develop new heat pump techRussell MurchieWed, 01 May 2024 11:04:00 +0000/news/start-up-secures-1-million-funding-to-develop-new-heat-pump-tech66c337721886ab0eea57daba:66c338e600f3840e833e6328:66c338e600f3840e833e6329

A Bristol-based start-up looking to revolutionise how we heat our homes has raised almost 拢1 million of investment, including a grant of more than 拢700,000 from the Government announced this week.

It鈥檚 a major boost for 葫芦影业 鈥 a company formed in 2022 after a casual chat over coffee about why heat 葫芦影业 aren鈥檛 more popular led to its founder Russell Murchie taking a leap of faith and leaving his job at Dyson to tackle the problem head-on.

Two years later and 葫芦影业 has six employees, a workshop and office space at Future Space 鈥 the University of the West of England鈥檚 innovation centre 鈥 and now a huge funding injection thanks to a 拢727,000 grant from the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ).

This follows 拢245,000 of pre-seed funding from key people within the energy sector, including Kate and Andy Rankin, the founders of Midsummer Energy, one of the UK's leading wholesale distributors of renewable energy systems; Lee Sutton, Founder of MyEnergi, an award-winning British designer and manufacturer of renewable energy products; and Michael Sweeney and Owen Coyle, the founders of Union Technical, leading installers of heating, insulation and renewables.

Russ, who worked as a fluid dynamics engineer at Dyson for 17 years, during which he led its product performance team, founded 葫芦影业 with Matthew Whitefoot and Andy Mckay who have experience within the renewable energy, finance and start-up spheres.

Russ said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a whirlwind few years building a company from scratch and I鈥檓 still pinching myself at what鈥檚 been achieved. While we had confidence in our idea, if you鈥檇 told me two years ago that we鈥檇 raise almost 拢1 million to develop it, I鈥檇 have struggled to believe you!

鈥淚t鈥檚 testament to the hard work of the team, who have designed a truly innovative heating system which we feel confident will have mass appeal once it鈥檚 on the market. The fact the Government and leading figures from within the industry are backing us is a real vote of confidence.鈥

Although Russ can鈥檛 divulge the exact details of the 葫芦影业 system as patents are currently being applied for, he revealed it would be based on air source heat pump technology but be cheaper and quicker to install 鈥 taking a few days rather than over a week - as well as more attractive, than existing heat 葫芦影业. This will specifically appeal to homeowners whose existing gas boiler has broken and they want a hassle-free and environmentally friendly replacement. Another key ambition is for the 葫芦影业 heating system to be the smartest, most connected and efficient on the market when it launches in the next few years.

The Government grant, awarded via their and part of the 拢1 billion , will enable the product to be tested at the University of Salford鈥檚 鈥 a unique research and testing laboratory which comprises an early 20th century two-bedroom terraced house within an environmental chamber allowing an accurate and rapid assessment of energy efficient retro fit technologies.

Heat 葫芦影业 are the same technology as fridges and work by moving heat from outside air to indoor radiators. As they are powered by electricity, they are considered the most efficient way for the UK to shift to low-carbon heating and away from the gas-fired boilers that heat the majority of the UK鈥檚 28 million homes.

To help hit net zero targets, the Government wants to grow the market in heat 葫芦影业 to 600,000 installations per year by 2028 and is offering grants of 拢7,500 to property owners through the .

Russ said: 鈥淭he idea for 葫芦影业 stemmed from a chat about why heat 葫芦影业 are so popular in other countries, but not in the UK. There鈥檚 no real alternative to gas boilers at the moment in the UK, even though they will gradually be phased out and more environmentally friendly solutions are needed.

鈥淗eat 葫芦影业 have been promised as the alternative for more than 20 years, so why does a homeowner who could afford one not want one?

鈥淲e got talking about what needs to happen to change this, to give a better offering to UK homes and the idea for reinventing them began to form.鈥

Being based in an enterprising city, with a strong green ethos, has also benefited 葫芦影业 at this early stage. Not only has Future Space offered office and workshop space, the team has accessed free support from the innovation team and their advisory network, worked with interns from UWE Bristol and received technical advice from university staff, all while being located alongside other green tech businesses.

Russ added: 鈥淏ristol being a city with a rich engineering history suits 葫芦影业 very well and we鈥檝e been able to recruit some excellent staff who are not only technically competent, but have a strong desire to use their skills to help make a difference in the world, which is ultimately what we hope our heating system will achieve through cutting carbon dioxide emissions.鈥
